Message From the CCA Parent Advocacy Board
Good afternoon,
In an effort to provide a much overdue update to the parents, the Parent Advocacy Board requested to meet with Calvary Christian Academy faculty and staff. Wednesday evening, March 19, a majority of the full-time faculty and staff were able to meet with the PAB.
Many concerns were discussed, but most important of all, was what next year may look like. The PAB asked those present if they intended to return to work at Calvary Christian Academy next year. A total of 20 full-time faculty and staff present shared that they would not return to CCA at the end of their current contract.
Additionally, members of the PAB have been informed by many donors that they can no longer support CCA under the current church leadership. The financial outlook is also greatly impacted with enrollment declining throughout this school year and an understanding of a greater decline next year.
Under the current church leadership, we have witnessed an inability to address the issues at hand [background, timeline of events]. Even with many efforts being made recently to address these issues through policy change, the PAB has observed that the church leadership has failed to respond in a way that has restored the trust of the faculty, staff, and parents. The faculty and staff have had a consistent message since August and the survey the PAB conducted in December is consistent with what was shared last night. Those previous results were shared not only with parents, but also with the church leadership.
The faculty and staff of CCA have not spoken out directly in the hope for true reconciliation, but also for fear of retribution. In speaking with a majority of the CCA full-time faculty and staff, we believe that we have reached the point where all of our efforts have been exhausted. We have advocated for change, prayed for hearts to change, but we know this is all in God’s hands. If God is closing a door, who are we to try to break it down?
Based on the facts we have on hand, the only viable path forward we see to fulfill the mission we shared in November, “to promote the uninterrupted Christian education of our children,” does not lie at CCA. We had hoped to accomplish that by ensuring that “policy exists that empowers a reinstated school board with the authority to govern all aspects of Calvary Christian Academy,” however, we have failed at that. We appreciate those who have fought for this, including many on the CCA Oversight Committee, however, without a foundation of trust, we see no path forward. In the absence of over 250 years of experience in Christian Education and over 50 years of Christian School Administration, we feel we must look elsewhere.
Members of the PAB and other concerned parents have yet again come together, seeking a way to continue Christian Education in our region. Discussions have resumed in earnest on starting a new school or homeschool co-op. We are planning a parent and teacher meeting next week to look at any viable options for teachers and students to continue this amazing ministry and provide the best Christian Education possible. Please prayerfully consider where God is leading your family in this very disheartening time.
Sincerely,
The Parent Advocacy Board
